B. Braun Melsungen AG, a pharmaceutical and medical technology company, has teamed with Priamus System Technologies AG, to develop technological solutions for injection molds.

The challenge with molding different sized parts on, for example, 16- or 24-cavity is unbalanced cavity filling, and as a result, short shots that can damage the mold.

Braun and Priamus developed extremely small and high sensitive cavity temperature sensors, placed at the end of the flow path of each cavity, to provide information about the flow front. These sensors automatically balance fill and recognize short shots, in real time. Bad parts get sorted out automatically.

Additionally, using pressure sensors, used together with the temperature sensors, can monitor deviations on viscosities.

“Molds manufactured at B. Braun in Germany, are sampled and process validated so that all mold data for constant quality are laid down in Germany,” said Christian Reich, Priamus’ sales representative. “During series production in global production facilities the same quality is guaranteed by controlling on these reference data.”

Priamus is based in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. Its U.S. unit in Brunswick, Ohio, is Priamus System Technologies LLC.
