Packaging major Inteplast Group has acquired its main competitor in corrugated plastic sheet, Coroplast Inc. Inteplast did not disclose terms of the Aug. 15 deal.

Inteplast gets corrugated sheet plants in Vanceburg, Ky., and Granby, Quebec, as well as Coroplast’s headquarters in Chicago.

Inteplast said the purchase makes it the leader in manufacturing and distribution of corrugated plastics in North America. The deal combines Inteplast’s IntePro and subsidiary Matra Plast of Canada’s Hi-Core products with Coroplast corrugated sheet to yield the broadest product line in the industry, Inteplast claimed in a news release.

Coroplast makes a broad line of corrugated plastic sheet and related laminates for graphics, reusable packaging, agriculture, automotive and construction. It was owned by Vancouver, British Columbia-based conglomerate Jim Pattison Group, which bought it in 1990.

“Coroplast brings geographic diversity and increased capabilities to our group,” noted Inteplast Group President John Young in a news release. “The management team of Coroplast will continue unchanged and Coroplast’s customers can expect a seamless transition in service and quality, for which Coroplast has been well known in the industry.”

Inteplast said it will operate its new subsidiary as Coroplast LLC. Inteplast is based in Livingston, N.J.
