R&B Plastics Machinery LLC, a maker of blow molding machinery and extruders in Saline, Mich., has completed major rebuild/modernization projects for two leading original equipment manufacturers: rebuilding three blow molding machines for Cardinal Health and Amway.

For Cardinal Health, a maker of medical devices, R&B bought a used shuttle blow molder and stripped it down to the frame. R&D technicians added the latest controls, mechanical and electrical systems, coolant, pneumatics and hydraulics along with in-machine trimming for medical product manufacturing.

For Amway, the consumer product maker, R&B upgraded two existing large wheel blow molding machines, adding a range of new enhancements including new parison programming, open-architecture control systems and MAX extrusion screws to improve melt quality and increase production and performance.

Machinery rebuilding and modernization can be a less-expensive alternative to buying new machinery.

“In a competitive marketplace, processors and OEMs are increasingly looking to reconditioning and retooling services which provide the option of upgrading existing equipment to the latest industry standards,” said Dave Corson, director of sales and marketing for R&B. “The ability to obtain all the benefits of a new machine at 30 percent or more cost savings is a highly attractive option.”
