An employee of Grand Rapids Plastics Inc. has died following an industrial accident involving an injection molding machine.

Russel Scharenbroch, 34, was polishing the machine June 27 when another employee, not knowing he was inside, turned on the machine, local news reports. Scharenbroch died from his injuries.

The Michigan Occupational Health and Safety Adminstration is investigating the incident.

Grand Rapids Plastics makes replacement auto parts as well as products for the construction and electronics industries, according to its website. The company operates presses ranging from 40 tons to 3,000 tons of clamping force, according to its website

The company was cited by OSHA for three serious violations in February, and for five violations — two serious — in September 2010.
