Pregis Corp. is planning what the company calls a “multimillion dollar investment” at its Plymouth, Ind., manufacturing site.

The Deerfield, Ill.-based maker of protective packaging materials and systems is adding a new converting line to produce low density polyethylene hybrid cushioning film.

The film is used by Pregis’ AirSpeed Versa brand of protective packaging equipment.

The company also is moving its systems equipment center from the manufacturing plant to a 62,000-square-foot facility across the street, Pregis said. That move will give the company more room to configure custom protective packaging systems.

“Demand continues to increase for Pregis’ protective packaging materials and systems,” CEO Kevin Baudhuin said in a statement. “By increasing our HC film output and moving our equipment center to a larger facility, we will be better able to service growing customer requirements for custom protective packaging systems and materials.”

The new converting line should be operating by the end of the third quarter, Pregis said.

Hybrid cushioning differs from traditional void fill pillows because it features a pad of small, square air chambers instead of one large air bag, the company said.
