A leading Japanese plastics processor is planning to set up a production facility in Łódź, Poland. Municipal authorities are currently in talks with the potential investor due to which its name was not disclosed, reported local dailyPuls Biznesu.

The manufacturer is active in the plastics processing and electronic components industry. Its planned investment is expected to create between 150 and 200 new jobs, and production could be launched in the spring of 2015.

Marcin Włodarczyk, a spokeswoman for the city council’s Investor Relations Office, said that the project is a result of last year’s visit of a delegation of the Łódź city council to Japan.

“Over the past few months, we have been working extensively with the Łodzka special economic zone. The company informed us that it is finalizing negotiations on establishing a joint venture either in Łódź or in its neighborhood and is currently selecting its localization,” Włodarczyk said.

Should the factory be located in the special economic zone, the Japanese investor would benefit from preferential tax treatment for its investment. Currently, a number of plastics industry players are active in the zone. These include plastic packaging manufacturer Albea Poland, PP film producer Flexpol, and PU foam manufacturer Greiner Multifoam.
