Hungarian auto supplier expands to meet new demand from Serbia

Hungarian injection molder Simon E.V. has completed a 48,000-square-foot expansion at its plant in Kőszárhegy, Hungary, investing 550 million Hungarian forints ($2.4 million).

The company also is adding 110 employees, according to local news site autopro.hu.

By 2015. the auto supplier hopes to add another 48,000 square feet to the site, and create another 100 to 120 jobs, said István Simon, the company’s owner and CEO.

The growth is thanks to new orders coming from Serbia, which is drawing more auto production and auto suppliers.

The European Union provided about 100 million forints ($447,000) in support for the expansion.

Simon now has a workforce of 436 with facilities in Kőszárhegy and Székesfehérvár.

Simon supplies a wide range of plastic components to various automotive manufacturers, including Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Citroen, Peugeot, Suzuki and Mitsubishi. The company’s production facility is fitted with 80 machines with a clamping force ranging from 25 metric tons to to 1,000 metric tons.

Simon has an output of 27 million plastic parts per month, with sales of 5.24 billion forints ($23.2 million) in 2013.
